Biden contradicts his administration's messaging on Russia, accuses reporter of 'playing a game with me'

President Biden suggested Thursday that sanctions were not meant to deter the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, telling reporters now that "sanctions never deter."

"Sir, deterrence didn’t work. What makes you think Vladimir Putin will alter course based on the action you’ve taken today," Biden was asked by CBS reporter Christina Ruffini during a press conference at a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium.

"Let’s get something straight. You remember if you covered me from the very beginning, I did not say that, in fact, the sanctions would deter him. Sanctions never deter. You keep talking about that. Sanctions never deter," Biden responded.

Ruffini repeated the question, asking whether these actions could make Putin change course.

"That’s not what I said. You’re playing a game with me. The answer’s no," Biden snapped back.

"The maintenance of sanctions, increasing the pain and the demonstration [is] why I asked for this NATO meeting today, is to be sure that after a month, we will sustain what we're doing, not just next month, the following month, but for the remainder of this entire year," Biden said.

Biden said the "single most important thing is for us to stay unified" and for the world to "continue to focus on what a brute [Putin] is, and all the innocent people's lives are being lost and ruined."

"We have to stay fully, totally thoroughly united," he added.

Speaking with Fox News Digital just minutes after Biden's NATO speech, Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said, "Of course sanctions deter."

"But they must be structured to be impactful in order to work," he added, saying Biden should have taken tougher action against Putin prior to his invasion of Ukraine.

Biden's remarks come after weeks of messaging from key Biden administration officials – including Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken – who claimed the sanctions placed on Russia were meant to deter the actions of Putin.

Asked in February whether she believed sanctions would deter Putin, Harris said at the time, "Absolut- — we strongly believe — and remember also that the sanctions are a product not only of our perspective as the United States but a shared perspective among our Allies. And the Allied relationship is such that we have agreed that the deterrence effect of these sanctions is still a meaningful one, especially because – remember, also – we still sincerely hope that there is a diplomatic path out of this moment."

Harris also said in February that the "purpose of the sanctions has always been and continues to be deterrence."

Prior to Russia's invasion, during an interview with CNN, Blinken insisted that the "purpose of the sanctions in the first instance is to try to deter Russia from going to war."

Similarly, in February, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said "sanctions can be a powerful tool" and that the overall goal of imposing sanctions on Russia was to "have a deterrent effect."

"Sanctions can be a powerful tool," Psaki said. "They have been in a lot of moments throughout history. And what we view them as — or how we’re viewing them as we’re starting high, as Daleep just conveyed here, in terms of the significance and the severity of the sanctions that were announced today — yes, our intention is to have a deterrent effect."

During that same briefing, Daleep Singh, deputy national security adviser for International Economics, said sanctions "serve a higher purpose" and that is to "deter and prevent."

"Sanctions are not an end to themselves. They serve a higher purpose. And that purpose is to deter and prevent," Singh said. "They’re meant to prevent and deter a large-scale invasion of Ukraine that could involve the seizure of major cities, including Kyiv. They’re meant to prevent large-scale human suffering that could involve tens of thousands of casualties in a conflict."

During an appearance on 'America's Newsroom' in February, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said the administration wanted the sanctions "to have a deterrent effect."

"We want them to have a deterrent effect, clearly," Kirby said. "And he hasn’t invaded yet. […] So look, if you punish somebody for something they haven’t done yet ... they might as well go ahead and do it."

A Twitter account managed by the Republican National Committee highlighted remarks from officials in the Biden administration who, at one point, claimed that the sanctions were meant to deter Putin.

    https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/sta...r-putin-ukraine-despite-white-house-messaging

Also in February, Jake Sullivan, Biden's national security adviser, said "the president believes that sanctions are intended to deter."

"And in order for them to work — to deter, they have to be set up in a way where if Putin moves, then the costs are imposed," Sullivan added. "We believe that that is the right logic both on its own merits, but equally importantly, we believe that the most important fundamental for anything that unfolds in this crisis, whether through diplomacy or as a result of military action, is that the West be strong, be united, and be determined to operate with common purpose."

Except there have been numerous recounts, and none of them had any signs of voter fraud. Trump had his lawyers present 60 some odd cases, and not one of them had any evidence of voter fraud.

If you haven't found any by now, I'm curious why people still think Biden stole the election?

Just more proof that biden hates America when he glorifies someone that thinks terrorism and Marxism is a great thing.....

White House celebrates Maoist Yuri Kochiyama who cheered bin Laden, communist massacre in Peru
Biden admin celebrates activist who said bin Laden is 'one of the people that I admire'

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) posted a celebration of Women's History Month Friday honoring activist Yuri Kochiyama, who was a public admirer of terrorist Usama bin Laden.

Kochiyama was a Japanese-American activist for communism and racial equality during the 20th century. Kochiyama's career as an activist was a controversial and volatile one. A victim of violent U.S. discrimination and an early voice for racial harmony, she also championed Chairman Mao's Great Leap Forward and was an advocate for terrorists.

The WHAANHPI honored Kochiyama's "political and civil rights" work but backed away from mentioning her support for bin Laden.

"I consider Usama bin Laden as one of the people that I admire. To me, he is in the category of Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Patrice Lumumba, Fidel Castro," Kochiyama said after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. "I thank Islam for bin Laden. America's greed, aggressiveness and self-righteous arrogance must be stopped. War and weaponry must be abolished."

In the same 2003 interview, Kuchiyama said, "bin Laden has been primarily fighting U.S. dominance even when he received money from the U.S., when he was fighting in Afghanistan. He was fighting for Islam and all people who believe in Islam, against westerners — especially the U.S. — even when he was fighting against the Russians."

    https://twitter.com/WHIAANHPI/statu...ama-praised-bin-laden-communist-massacre-peru

Kochiyama, a Japanese-American, was placed into an internment camp during the outbreak of World War II.

Executive Order 9066 was a policy implemented by the U.S. government under President Franklin Roosevelt to round up and imprison U.S. citizens and noncitizens of Japanese descent. The imprisonment has gone down in history as one of the most egregious violations of human rights in U.S. history, alongside slavery and the Indian Removal Act.

This racial persecution radicalized Kochiyama, who spent the rest of her life attempting to follow in the footsteps of Malcolm X, who she deeply admired for his racial advocacy and practice for achieving equality. She eventually converted to Islam later in life.

"For fifty years, Kochiyama spoke out about oppressive institutions and injustice in the United States. Her activism supported the liberation and empowerment of African Americans, Asian Americans and Puerto Ricans," the WHIAANHPI noted.

Kochiyama was also a supporter of the Shining Path movement, a Maoist terrorist cell led by former philosophy professor Abimael Guzmán. Shining Path killed at least 24,000 people over the course of 12 years in its campaign to overthrow the Peruvian government in a communist revolution.

"What has been taking place in both Peru and the U.S. is a serious campaign to discredit Guzmán and the Shining Path movement, tainting them as terrorists, undermining their struggle with lies, isolating them and intimidating anyone who might support them," Kochiyama once said of the group.

Watching Biden mumbling through a weak, senile rambling in Poland - where he told US Troops what they would see when they were in Ukraine (initiating a massive clean-up campaign by WH staffers), it is once again obvious: who fucking thinks that this fucking clown can do anything anywhere? His biggest successes are against the American people.

He may be the only reason that Putin has to laugh these days.

White House and Media Suffer Whiplash With Effort to Cover Biden's Latest Putin Mistake
By Nick Arama | Mar 26, 2022 5:45 PM ET
    [IMG]
    Screenshot via YouTube

Looks like that White Hosue effort to remake Joe Biden once again crashed on the rocks.

They wanted to have him make a Reagan-like speech against Vladimir Putin. But as with anything Joe Biden, he said something that got him in trouble. During the speech, as we reported, he seemed to encourage regime change against Putin. “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power!”

    https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/sta...-to-cover-bidens-latest-putin-mistake-n541381

The media was immediately touting it.

    https://twitter.com/mkraju/status/1...-to-cover-bidens-latest-putin-mistake-n541381

The Ukrainian media and German media were all over it.

    https://twitter.com/KyivIndependent...-to-cover-bidens-latest-putin-mistake-n541381

But the White House knew what a mistake he’d made — that it would be viewed as Biden advocating regime change — and that it would inflame the situation; that Putin would likely use it as a propaganda point showing that the U.S. was trying to get rid of him and that would make things even worse. It also might be implying they were taking action that they weren’t willing to take. So they immediately tried to unring the bell and walk it back.

    https://twitter.com/JacquiHeinrich/...-to-cover-bidens-latest-putin-mistake-n541381

So now they have to explain to the rest of the world: Whoops, he didn’t mean that — we’re going to try to say it means something other than what he said.

Instead of having the Reagan-like speech that they’d hoped for, they once again had a mess. This was the third time on this trip alone that they had to clean up after Biden, but this one was even more public given how they hyped and highlighted the speech. Previously, they had to clean up him saying that the U.S. would respond “in-kind” if Russia did a chemical attack. They also had to spin him telling the 82nd Airborne that they would see people in the streets fighting for freedom, standing against tanks, apparently referring to Ukraine. The White House had to say, no, Biden wasn’t sending troops to Ukraine, despite what Biden said. He also said that “some of you (troops) have been there,” something else likely to set off Russia and endanger the American troops in Poland.

After the White House came out to clean it up, the media almost suffered whiplash in an effort to justify the clean-up.

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski tried to phrase it as Biden keeping the Russians guessing.

    https://twitter.com/morningmika/sta...-to-cover-bidens-latest-putin-mistake-n541381

But honest media know that this was all a problem.

More like keeping his own communications team guessing and having apoplexies over how to cover the mess.

The White House tried to spin a bit more. The White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain retweeted Ben Rhodes. You know you’re getting low when you have to rely upon Ben Rhodes to help you spin.

It’s hard to see how this is good when you hand Putin the propaganda point he’s been pushing to his people. That could make Putin more recalcitrant to talk peace because he’s now received confirmation, in his mind, that we do want to take him out. This is the great danger of having Biden in the office.
