Independence weekend activities abound
As the national holiday period draws to a climax, a raft of festive activities will take place around the island.
The period continues to be one of parties as the Appleton Treasure Island series reaches its peak, in the western town of Negril, which the company has dubbed Vibes Island.
At the opposite end of the island, in St Thomas, there will be stage shows, arts and cultural exhibitions and sports competitions, all organised by the St Thomas Emancipation and Culture Foundation (STEC).
With ‘Reggae Sunsplash’ ending tonight, the focus will return to Kingston for the two big events, the invitation-only Prime Minister’s Independence Gala at Jamaica House and the big Independence Street Jam on Knutsford Boulevard. The former will celebrate 50 years of Jamaican recorded music and the latter will combine live performances with art and craft exhibitions and other attractions.
